North Cyprus Transportation

Getting around in North Cyprus is easy and flexible, whether you’re arriving at Ercan Airport, moving between cities, or exploring remote villages and coastal regions. A variety of transport options ensures that your holiday remains smooth and stress-free.
From the Airport to the City
When traveling to or from Ercan International Airport, you have two convenient options:
- Airport Shuttle (KIBHAS) – A regular and affordable bus service that connects Ercan Airport with the major city centres across North Cyprus.
- Taxi Services – Comfortable and widely available, taxis offer direct and private transfers, including more luxurious options if you prefer added comfort.
Travel Between Cities
To travel between the five main cities of North Cyprus — Nicosia (Lefkoşa), Kyrenia (Girne), Famagusta (Gazimağusa), Güzelyurt, and İskele/Karpas — you can choose:
- Shared minibuses (dolmuş) – These run frequently and depart once full, rather than on a fixed schedule. They are a convenient and budget-friendly option.
- Taxis – More flexible but pricier than dolmuş, they are suitable for direct routes or when traveling with luggage or in a group.
Renting a Car – The Best Way to Explore
One of the best ways to discover the hidden beauty of North Cyprus is to rent a car. With well-maintained roads, scenic routes, and minimal traffic, self-driving offers you the freedom to explore beaches, mountain villages, historical ruins, and nature trails at your own pace.
To rent and drive a car in North Cyprus, you must:
- Hold a valid national driving licence.
- In many cases, also present an International Driving Permit (IDP) — especially if your licence is not in English or Latin script.
- Be at least 25 years old (some rental agencies may allow 21+ with additional conditions).
- Remember that traffic drives on the left, as in the UK.
You can find car rental offices at Ercan Airport and in all major towns and resort areas.
